Environment

The Green Party's main goal is to restore and preserve our Environment and move into a brighter future. In the vision green platform, it is exclaimed that Canada is one of the worlds biggest offenders against the environment. Living through life using our air, soil and waters as dumping grounds for toxic chemicals, only shows that we're leaving a degraded environment for our children. The green party has made a plan to protect and conserve water, preserve national parks, protect endangered species, removing waste, a new Arctic strategy and everything in-between. The Canadian Green Party intends to set targets for its society with reasonable objectives so these goals can be successfully reached by the community. Policy's must be enforced on a regular basis to make these visions of a brighter environmental future a reality.

A smart economy is a green economy. It focuses on value-added production and generates green products that will be in demand in tomorrow’s markets. It relies on non-polluting systems and energy sources. It ends waste. It reuses and recycles. A smart economy is not based on hype. It is real people building real things.

The Green Party will put in policies to promote social welfare for all. The party knows everyone is dependent on each other and that many people need support sometime in their life. Their goal is that all people should be able to live a fulfilled life, equal right to food, water, warmth and housing. People in need help, often receive a minimal service. The service may be the cheapest option instead of an option best suited for the person. The Green Party would work towards having a single budget covering health and social services to make life easier for people who need access to several types of service.

The Green party’s views on social justice are that they are committed to making Canada a more fair and impartial society. They want to introduce a Guaranteed Annual Income, which ensures access to quality childcare services and early childhood education, cutting the debt towards post-secondary students, honouring the Kelowna Accord, which is a series of agreements between the Canadian government and the leaders of 5 national aboriginal organizations of Canada. They also wish to expand the rights of Canadians who are gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transsexual. They also want to ease the income support levels that are required for immigrant family sponsorship.

If the green party was elected they would want to abolish and oppose the death penalty, and have the 3 strikes, you’re out law, which makes either a life sentence or a long sentence without parole mandatory, for people who have been convicted of a 3rd felony such as violence, rape, using a deadly weapon or molestation. They wish to focus on crime prevention instead of harsh sentences. They believe that if they eliminate poverty, and revitalize our economy must be a central element of any plan to make crime rates reduced. They encourage their political leaders to remember “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” They believe that they should focus on where our social intervention can be most successful and effective, with programs such as “Gang Intervention Units.” They also believe that practical education that actually promises a future in needed if we expect and want long term success with this struggle.

The Green Part of Canada strongly believes in reforming the senate, to where all senators are elected. Seventy five percent of the green party want the senate to be elected this is more than any other Canadian political party. On the other hand the other ten percent want the senate abolished and one-person wants appointed senate. The green party also wants proportionally representation across the country more so in western Canada. Green party would still like to see the senate in place but would prefer for senators to have a term instead of staying in the senate until the age of 75.
