​Dieppe Raid
There were many main causes of WWII such as Hitler’s desire to control to the world. Hitler was also very interested in gaining the agrarian resources to the east of Germany. Hitler was allied with Japan and Italy which all had interest in controlling other countries to gain more land. By 1339 Hitler had defeated and successfully taken control of Austria and Czechoslovakia. Although this was not enough for Hitler he wanted to conquer the world. Britain and France had revoked their policy of appeasement and changed to a new policy of deterrence, warning Germany that if they were to attack Poland they would declare war against Germany. Hitler under estimated Britain and France and though they were bluffing. Hitler went ahead and signed an agreement with the Soviet Union, which divided Poland and the Baltic States. Germany invaded Poland on the September first, 1939. This enacted Britain and France to declare war on Germany, this how WWII first arose in Europe.

WesteThe Allies were pressured by the Soviet Union to open up a second Western front to attack the Germans, this would take pressure of the Soviet Union and Germany would have to turn its attention back to Europe.

British Chief of Combined Operations, Rear Admiral Louis Mountbatten was also practicing beach attacks, at this time Churchill chose to use this as a chance to put the training into action and attack the Germans at Dieppe

Lieutenant General Bernard Montgomery of Britain's South-Eastern Command provided the troops for the operation, and planned a frontal assault, without heavy preliminary airstrikes

Montgomery was being pressured by the Canadian government to ensure that Canadian troops saw some action, so the Canadian 2nd Division, under Major General Roberts, was selected for the main assault.
