Lessons Learned

Although in the the battle of Dieppe was a distaster on the Canadian there were some positive outcomes and stratagies learnt for attacking ports in future battles. The Raid gave the French hope, that they may not have been forgoten. The Raid at Dieppe also improved amphibious landing techniques for future battles Canada participated in, in WWII. Dieppe in some eyes was considered, a test run for D-Day. Without the failure of Dieppe, we may have not learned from our mistakes this could've resulted in failure at D-Day which would've completely changed the history of the war we look at today.  As for the battles to come to be successful there are a few things they must look at such as..

  • A sustained element of surprise

  • Strong Air force support

  • Use of heavy artillery from the beginning of the Raid

  • Avoiding Direct Frontal Attack

  • Taking the beach front first this would make it easier for them the allies to push forward and be more successful
